HAIKU
By Katherine Snodgrass
Autism affects everyone in one form or another. Haiku explores the pains and joys of one family coping with autism. Nell is a single mother whose older child Billie has left to live his life while she takes care of her daughter Louise with a very difficult form of autism. Nell realizes that perhaps Louise's condition is not as painful as it would seem, as she has the ability to speak beautifully in the form of Haiku's.
Overjoyed at the thought of Louise finally being able to be even the slightest bit normal, Nell calls Billie home to prove Louise's creativity to him. Nell's only hope is that Billie can see past Louise's condition and see her for who she is truly capable of being, herself.
